If you’re exploring it as an option for your future, read below to hear from Travel and Tourism students Charlie, Kyra and Amaya, who shared what they love about the course and about studying at EKC Dover College.

Charlie, Level 2 Travel and Tourism:

“I picked Travel and Tourism as I want to travel more when I’m older. My dream is to become a member of Cabin Crew so that I can fly around the world.

“I like the coursework that we get given at College. We get to make brochures and other materials for travel, which I find fun as I just like being creative.

“We’ve also done some trips this year such as visiting Gatwick Airport and seeing the RNLI lifeboats in action, which has been good. It’s great that we can just go outside the College and see places that have lots to do with the course and my future career.

“The course can seem difficult at times because there are so many modules that are very different and there’s always lots of different tasks that you have to do. However, these are really fun, and they do get you ready for what the industry is like. The course is really fun overall and I’d recommend it.

“The place that I’d love to travel to most would probably be Canada. It’s really pretty and there’s so much nature out there to discover.”

Kyra, Level 2 Travel and Tourism:

“I picked the course because I like travelling out of the country and exploring other cultures around the world.

“I originally come from Folkestone, and I could have gone to College there, but I really wanted to do Travel and that was a big part of my decision-making.

“I enjoy all the trips that we get to go on during the course. My favourite trip was when we went to the White Cliffs because we had the freedom to walk around and explore the nature there. We learnt about lots of nature and conservation. We also learnt about keeping people safe up there.

“In the future, I’d really like to work for DFDS. I’ve already done work experience with them where I welcomed guests, cleaned the tables and took part in other customer service tasks. That was part of my individual work placement, which I really enjoyed.

“It can be a hard course, but I think the more you do it, and if you just keep on top of the work, it gets really fun.

“Personally, I’d love to go to Tunisia one day as it’s really hot over there, especially in the summer.”

Amaya, Level 3 Travel and Tourism:

“I didn’t know what course I wanted to do at first, and then I went to an Open Day and discovered Travel and Tourism.  I can speak Spanish, and I thought that was a good opening because I like the idea of travelling and learning about different cultures.

“I’ve now realised I want to be a flight attendant in the future, or a holiday rep somewhere around the world.

“Thanks to studying at College, I’ve taken part in a work placement, which is at The Yarrow Hotel in Broadstairs. It’s been good so far. Working there means I’ll have experience dealing with customers and knowing what to do when issues come up. It also means I’m learning key communication skills.

“I would say you should definitely study Travel and Tourism. It’s so worth it, you get many opportunities and it’s not a stressful course.”
