Level 2 Diploma in Engineering

This pathway gives you time to develop skills in your chosen area and improve your English and maths to a grade 4 or equivalent. Reaching this level will help you have more opportunities in the future, like getting a skilled job, an apprenticeship, or moving on to a Level 3 course.

To join this programme, you’ll need the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at grades 2 to 1, including English and maths at Level 1 or higher.

You will learn through practical lessons in our state-of-the-art engineering workshop. Assessment will be through short answer questions, practical observations, and online tests.

By the end of the course, you will have developed a strong foundation in engineering processes and safe machinery operation.

You can finish with a Level 2 qualification and get a skilled job or an apprenticeship at the end of the course however, this programme is designed to help you move toward a Level 3 qualification, which can lead to advanced jobs or apprenticeships.

Many of our learners have progressed to T Level Engineering courses and are now working within the Engineering industry.

On this course, you’ll work with industry experts on technical projects and gain hands-on experience with new technologies. Our links with top companies mean that you can develop the skills you need to succeed.

During your time as an Engineering student, you will have the opportunity to form a team to take part the cross-College Robot Wars Competition. This will see you design a robot on CAD software before 3D-printing it ready to battle other engineering departments. You’ll apply engineering principles such as 2D design and CAD, whilst developing teamwork, leadership, and project management skills.

Throughout the year, you will take part in regular industry relevant trips, allowing you to see the inner workings of the Engineering industry firsthand.

You will also be encouraged to take part in local and national skills competitions. These competitions put your skill to the test whist helping you feel more confident working outside of the classroom.

English and Maths are an important part of the course. If you do not yet have
a grade 4/C in GCSE English or Maths, you’ll be supported to study these
subjects alongside your main course.
