Level 2 and Level 3 Art students recently showcased their creative ceramic eggs at the Fourth Wall Folkestone Egg-Xhibition, an annual event celebrating creativity and community.
The students dedicated their Spring Community Week to crafting these unique designs to promote mental health awareness.
The Egg-Xhibition featured hundreds of intricately designed eggs, with all entries submitted anonymously. This encouraged attendees to focus solely on the art as the public bid on the creations. Two of the students’ eggs were sold on opening night, contributing directly to the gallery’s fundraising efforts.

Each student focused on a specific theme for their designs regarding mental health awareness. Their concepts included:
Nicola: inflation and the shock of modern-day prices
George: the side effects that come from medication that are prescribed for mental illnesses
Ruby: cracking cultural barriers
Evan: hiding your emotions, especially as a male
Rose: turning into a monster
“I really like this project, especially since we get to be in a gallery and see everyone else’s eggs too. There’s artists from other schools and professionals making eggs for the exhibit.” commented Nicola.

Head of Service Industries Annike King and Programme Director Jacob Weeks guided the students through the creation process from start to finish.
“It’s very much about using the skills you are getting at College to benefit others and make a difference in the local community. It has huge implications benefiting the world. Art can be very healing,” said Annike.

“I think it’s awesome to actually get my work out and seen to the public. You don’t get that opportunity that often. Not only is it getting my name out there, in a way, it’s also helping out others, which is what I want to do,” said Evan as he finished up the last touches to his egg art.
Proceeds from the exhibition benefited the Fourth Wall Folkestone gallery and community space, a charitable organization committed to addressing mental health challenges through the power of art. Ceramic egg contributions came from a range of participants, including local professional artists and students.
