Be Kind to your Mind – Tips to Keep your Mind Healthy

10 October 2024
Student Experience Officer Summer and Mark from PureGym Dover highlight their tips for keeping your mind healthy.

Mental Health is incredibly important which is why there is a designated World Mental Health Day every October.

To celebrate World Mental Health Day, EKC Dover College’s Student Experience Officer, Summer Smith, organised a fitness challenge day with Mark Pring from Pure Gym Dover.

During the day, learners were challenged to beat the Principal, Eleanor Sherratt, at a basketball shootout. Eleanor impressed us with 43 hoops in 60 seconds.

There were remarkable attempts throughout the day to beat Eleanor, although, Maths and English Student, Jezril exceeded expectations with 95 hoops. He went on to impress us with his dance moves – look out for this TikTok soon!

Whilst at the event Summer and Mark both highlighted their tips for keeping your mind healthy.

Summer shared: “it’s really important to seek help when you need it and remember there is so much support available at College. You can speak with the Councillors or a Mentor. My door is always open too. I’d be happy to listen to your worries and point you in the right direction for the support you need.”

Mark, the manager of Pure Gym Dover said: “It’s important to create healthy habits and to try to incorporate exercise into your daily routine. Exercise helps you to release stress and feel good about yourself. Going to the gym regularly can help you have a growth mindset which can, in turn, help you to achieve your academic and personal goals.”

There was a buzz of excitement in the Student Zone throughout the day and students who attended were very supportive of their peers, clapping and cheering them on. This day was a real show of how exercise can have a positive effect on your Mental Health. Everyone left their session with smiles on their faces and there was a sense of achievement in the air. Remember to be kind to your mind and seek help when you feel overwhelmed.

If you want to be part of this supportive community, come along to an Open Day.
