As you step inside, you’ll find an exciting atmosphere, designed to kickstart your career in the Automotive industry. Let’s take a closer look: 

Workshop 

As you enter the Workshop, you’ll notice how it mimics a real-world Garage. Here you’ll gain specific skills such as maintenance, project management and teamwork, ensuring you get a comprehensive experience of the industry and to see what your future career could look like. 

Get ready to roll up your sleeves and start learning. The facilities are designed to give you real-world experience. You’ll work on everything from engine diagnostics and repairs to body work and restoration projects.  

Safety is key in our industry, so you’ll also master critical skills like brake servicing and wheel alignments. This Workshop space allows your creativity and technical skills to shine, preparing you for a successful career in Automotive Technology.

MOT Bays 

Next, let’s head over to the MOT Bays. 

In this dedicated space, you’ll conduct MOT inspections, from safety checks to emissions testing. Take on the challenge, solve real vehicle problems and conduct actual assessments.  

Using the tools available in College, you’ll build your confidence and prepare yourself for any issues that vehicles can face. 

For those who already have experience in the industry, this facility enables you to become qualified as an MOT Tester, a valuable title to have for your career. 

Electric and Hybrid Vehicles 

Now, we enter the Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Training Area, giving you the skills with the latest advancements in Automotive Technology.

Here you’ll discover the world of electric vehicles. Learn about everything from battery systems to regenerative braking, preparing you for a future-focused career. 

As you work directly on electric vehicles the College will ensure you’re ready to excel in a rapidly evolving industry. 

Tools and Equipment 

One of the best parts of the Workshop is the fantastic tools and equipment available for you to use.

You’ll each have your own portable toolbox stocked with spanners, wrenches and other various tools. This is your magic bag of tricks, ready for any challenge. 

Advanced diagnostic systems will also help you become a problem-solver. Whether it’s engine misfires or EV issues, you’ll learn to diagnose and fix problems like a pro. 

Safety Practices 

Before starting, let’s talk about safety. 

You’ll always wear gloves before starting any task, and thorough training is provided before using any tool, to ensure you know how to work safely and effectively. 

Your Lecturers are always nearby, offering guidance and ensuring a secure, engaging learning environment. 

Unique events and opportunities 

Throughout your time in the Workshop, you’ll take part in unique competitions alongside your peers. Recent competitions, like the KFE4Skills Automotive Finals, showcased students tackling vehicle issues with enthusiasm and skill, gaining confidence and valuable experience along the way. 

Level 3 Motor Sport student, Jay, said during the KFE4Skills Finals: “I wasn’t sure what to expect but it’s been a great experience to be a part of. I love that I’ve been able to test what I know and get to grips with the cars. I’ve enjoyed it so much and I’d love to do more competitions in the future.” 

As part of the finals, Jay and other students were tasked with four challenges, designed to test their technical skills and their knowledge of motor vehicles. In each challenge, the students were briefed as if they were working in a garage with ‘clients’ coming in get their cars repaired.
