Freshers' Fayre 2024 at EKC Dover College

On Wednesday 18 September, EKC Dover College hosted Freshers’ Fair, giving new and returning students a day to explore all of the local services, access exclusive discounts and find out more about the clubs and societies they can get involved in this year.

Organised by Student Experience Officer, Summer Smith and Students’ Union President, Sam Clark, the event promised to be a full afternoon of community buzz, and it certainly delivered. Students browsed a variety of stalls and spent time between classes relaxing, meeting new friends and enjoying the music and atmosphere.

First-year students from Engineering represented the F1 in Schools Project and were ready to show off their creations and the possibilities of the competition and what it can teach you about the world around you.

Student Experience Officer, Summer Smith said: “I’ve loved seeing the new students get to know each other and meet each other, today. Having the support of our community in Dover has been invaluable and now our students are clued up about all the things that are available, including exclusive discounts and Wellbeing services.”

EKC Dover College Principal, Eleanor Sharratt said: “The first few weeks at College are so important for our new learners, and we want to make sure they feel as welcome and involved in our community as possible. It has been a fantastic day and there’s so much more to look forward to. It is great to have welcomed so many local groups and organisation to the College to offer their support and services to our students.”

Kent Connected were in attendance at the Freshers’ Fayre to talk more about active travel links. They said: “We’re working closely with the College this year to promote healthier and more active travel. There are so many cars on the road, but we like to inform people of options which can be better for their health and the environment. We run regular repair and maintenance services for students to ensure their bikes are fit or purpose and helping them get around.”

Students’ Union President, Sam Clark, was pleased with the turnout at the event.

He said: “Today is exciting, it means students can meet lots of local companies that can support them when they’re at home or College. I’m excited about being the President this year. I’m in my second year at College and I think it’s really important that student’s voices are listened to. My main aim is to help them put their words to action. What’s coming up? We have some events planned for this term already, but I’m working with Summer to plan even more.”

What’s Next?

The first term at EKC Dover College promises to be fully packed with events and activities. Learners can get involved in a Skills Taster Day, Challenge the Principal games and a Ready Steady Cook challenge.
