How an MOT Testing course can boost your skills as a mechanic 

Getting certified in MOT testing can open doors for mechanics, increase responsibilities in the workshop, and boost confidence on the job.  

We spoke to two students about their experiences taking the MOT Testing course and how it’s helped them develop new skills and become more dependable in their roles. 

Leon is really glad he did it! 

When I started my new job, I was asked if I wanted to do the MOT course and thought I may as well say yes. It seemed like a great opportunity to learn something valuable right from the start.  

The course has made me more dependable in the workshop. Before, we used to have someone from another garage come in to handle MOTs, so now being able to do them myself really helps the team out. 

One of the most useful things I’ve learnt is how to always check through the manual properly. Finding the right categories and knowing exactly what to look for has made inspections much easier and more accurate.  

The support from the tutors has been excellent as well. Any time I’ve had a question, they’ve given clear, helpful answers, which makes learning a lot less stressful. 

I would definitely recommend this course to other mechanics. It’s a key skill to have, and the confidence and knowledge it provides are invaluable. Honestly, it’s something every mechanic should consider, and I’m really glad I did it. 

Ben had a really positive experience. 

I decided to take the MOT course because I wanted to open up more possibilities for myself in a garage works. It’s given me the chance to take on additional responsibilities and develop skills that I didn’t have before.  

The course itself has been really good, and the workshop facilities are great – clean, tidy, and with very good equipment, which makes learning much easier. 

The tutors have been fantastic. They’re very approachable and supportive, answering questions whenever needed. Knowing that I have that kind of help has made the course a really positive experience.  

I would absolutely recommend this course to other mechanics. It’s a great way to build confidence and make yourself more valuable in the workshop.
