A big part of College life, is our Students’ Union (SU), but what does this mean?
In this blog, we share the importance of the Students’ Union, what our new SU President hopes to achieve over the next year, and how you can get involved.
Firstly, what is the Students’ Union?
The Students’ Union (SU) is a group of students dedicated to representing your voice, organising events, and running campaigns to enhance College life.
Every student automatically becomes a member of the SU when they join us, giving you the opportunity to get involved, share your ideas, and help shape student experiences.
The SU is led by the Students’ Union President, who works closely with the Student Experience Officer, to support clubs, societies, and enrichment activities across the College.
Who is the new Students’ Union President for 2026/27?
We’re pleased to announce Milly as our new Students’ Union President for the 2026/27 academic year.
She’s been a big part of the SU during her College studies so far, and is excited to create more positive change from this September.
What is Milly excited about in the year ahead?
As the new SU President, Milly is most excited about communicating with students more directly.
She said of her goals this year: “I plan to visit classrooms and speak to students in person to better understand their views and experiences.
“I want students to be able to communicate with me easily about anything. By going directly into classrooms, I hope this makes providing feedback more accessible than relying on QR codes or feedback forms alone.”
How do I give my thoughts or feedback to the Students’ Union?
If you want to suggest a trip, event or activity, or just want to share your opinion, there are many ways you can do so.
Firstly, you can speak to Milly directly, or our Student Experience Officer, Summer.
One of Milly’s main messages this year is that she is open to any suggestions or feedback, even if it seems small to you. She is passionate about raising the student voice and wants students to feel comfortable sharing their ideas.
In addition, each class has a ‘Class Rep’, who feeds back to the SU about what’s going on in the classroom.
You can also become an elected officer of the SU, in roles such as ‘Publicity Officer’ or ‘LGBTQIA+ Officer’.
