Art and Design students impressed the Owner of Kent Crisps, Laura Bounds, as she recently visited EKC Dover College to judge the students’ phenomenal crisp packet designs.
The students were tasked with creating two limited-edition designs for Kent Crisps as their client. Their brief was to keep the packets on brand whilst incorporating their own artwork.
One packet was to feature a Christmas flavour whilst the other flavour was to be chosen by the students based on their research. They were required to pick an iconic Kentish location and a flavour partner to work with.

The young artists presented their work to Laura, and Hannah, the Head of Marketing at Kent Crisps, explaining their designs and how they have incorporated the Kent Crisps ethos through their packets.
The award-winning businesswoman, Laura, had a difficult job choosing the winning designs due to the creativity and sophisticated details students had put into the finished product.
After much deliberation two packets were chosen. Amy Willsher came in second place with her stunning depiction of Canterbury Cathedral and Christmas markets. Laura could not believe the amount of detail in the design.
Niamh Heart (artist name) swooped the win with her Charles Dickens inspired Rochester design. The judges were mesmerised by Niamh level of research, confident presentation and raw talent.

Whilst speaking with a very excited Niamh she exclaimed: “I was speechless when they told me I won, I have put a lot of effort into my design.
“I choose Rochester for my design the reason for this is because I wanted to highlight Charles Dickens messages and his linked to Kent.
“I incorporated both historic pictures of Rochester and modern-day pictures, painting the scene to merge the two together. I kept on the clock as a focus point as this has remined the same throughout time.
“My flavour is Roasted Chestnut and Punch as this is what Bob Cratchit and Scrooge share at the end of Christmas Carol. Living in such crazy times I think it is important to remember the messages from Dickens about treating everyone with respect regardless of their background.”

When asking Laura her thoughts about the students work, she told us: “I was absolutely blow away by the thought the students put into their designs.
“The well-rounded approach to thinking about the business, the PR, the tourism link, the economy and the flavour partners. I felt a bit emotional about these designs.
This is a business that I am very proud of. These students have invested thought and time into creating these packets which reflects the love and passion I put into the business, it has really blown me away. Credit to them all!”

A huge congratulations to Niamh, Amy, and all the Art and Design students for surpassing expectations with this incredible project. We are immensely proud of the exceptional quality of work you’ve created. Your dedication and talent shone through in your designs.
