On Thursday 22 August, students at EKC Dover College collected their Level 2 and GCSE results. We caught up with some of our students to congratulate them on their success and find out where they are heading next.
Oliver Clark, Level 2 Technical Diploma in Digital Technology
“I’ve passed all of my units this year, with a pass mark in two, a merit in two and a distinction in two of them.
“In September I’ll be studying T Level Computing course here, and I’m really looking forward to learning in-depth more about the I.T sector and where I can go. I’m quite excited to get to work with industry.
“I’d like to be a game designer in the future, and I hope to do a Level 4 or 5 course after the T Level to help me with this. I’d then progress onto university to do Game Design and get a job through this.
“I’d say that new students shouldn’t overthink the course. There’s a lot of technical ideas presented at the start, but the teachers will help you through it and make it easy to understand.
“My knowledge when I started was very limited but now, I know loads about IT, AI, and data security.”
Rebecca Harrison, GCSE Maths
“I wanted to open up my career options and as an adult, I knew I had to start somewhere, so I chose to resit my GCSE Maths through College.
“Getting a grade 5 means that I can actually go out and see what jobs are available for me to go into. I don’t really know what I’d like to do yet, but I’m glad to succeed today, especially as I wasn’t so confident in myself when I started. College taught me that Maths isn’t scary and that it can be fun. Your hard work will really pay off here.”
Rowven Sanyangore, GCSE Maths
“Achieving a grade 5 today has made all my hard work worth it.
“I applied to College and joined through Open Enrolment which meant I started slightly later than the other students. I was very against doing my Maths when I started for this reason, but my teachers encouraged me.
“I’m continuing I.T at the College in September and it’s just such a relief to not worry about Maths ever again and focus on my future. I hated Maths in school and believed that I wouldn’t be good at it but here we are.
“Students joining in September need to remember that whilst working hard is important, it’s just as important to make it fun. I didn’t think I’d pass Maths, but it’s possible.
“I’ve grown throughout being here in terms of what I’ve picked up, as well as how the teachers have shaped me to achieve and to become the confident person I am. Everything does happen for a reason.”
Jacob Holder, GCSE English
Jacob received a grade 4 in his English after resitting this year. He is looking into taking part in a residential motorsport course, where students live and study together as they gain practical motor vehicle experience. He needed his GCSEs to be able to start the course, so today was a great result for him, and his options are now open.
Prinicpal of EKC Dover College, Eleanor Sherratt was around this morning to congratulate students. She said:
“Well done to all students on their GCSE and Level 2 results today. For those who need support following their results, please call or email us at the College and we will be happy to help wherever we can.”
