Budding young artists at EKC Dover College have been asking what the future holds in their end of year exhibition.
Running for two weeks at St James Retail Park, the ‘Facing a New World’ exhibition was designed to bring attention to world issues, as well as create wider conversations with the Dover community about how we can all make a difference.
Level 3 Art student, Alfie, focused on what changes may occur if we do not tackle rising sea levels. In one of their artworks, Alfie created a giant map of the United Kingdom using pictures and artworks of all the endangered animals that the UK is home to. As a result of this exhibition, Alfie entered the Turner Contemporary Portfolio competition, and their work has now been chosen to be displayed in the prestigious art museum till the end of September.
Alfie credited our art course with unlocking their potential, saying, “It has allowed me to create things that I don’t usually create. This is one of the most fun projects that I have done, and it is great to see my work on display for everyone to see.”
It is not only Art and Design students that are starting conversation however, as other departments from around the College have also been creating artwork. Hairdressing students have been using model heads to create out of this world designs, looking at current trends to see what may be fashionable in the future. Computing students have also been looking into the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR), using Meta Quest headsets and remote-control cars to see how these will affect our future.
We are so proud of being able to display the wide range of achievements that happen at EKC Dover College. If you are interested in other opportunities we give to students, check out our news page.
