If you’re thinking about studying with us, you’ll be invited to an Applicant Day. But what is it, and why do you need to go?
Don’t worry – we’re here to offer guidance and answer any potential questions with this straightforward guide, explaining exactly what the day involves.
Step 1. Apply for a course online
First, you’ll find the course you’re interested in and submit your application online. You can do this directly through our website or your KentChoices portal. As part of this application, you’ll be asked to choose a date for your Applicant Day – make sure you select a day that works for you!
Step 2. Receive your invite for an Applicant Day
Following your application, you will receive an invite to attend your chosen Applicant Day. This invitation will include all the information you need for the day, including anything you may need to bring with you.
Step 3. Sign in
When you arrive on campus, simply head to reception to sign in. This is where you’ll meet a representative from the subject area who will lead you to the department.
Step 4. Head to your subject area
Once you’ve been taken to the subject area, you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of our staff, have a tour of the facilities, and take part in an interactive session. This could be anything from working on sally doll heads in Hair and Beauty, or being introduced to different machinery in Engineering, Manufacturing and Automotive.
This session is designed to give you a brief introduction to the subject area and style of learning you can expect when you enrol on your course. It’s important to remember this is not a test. We use this activity to understand your interest, attitude, and potential – not just what you already know.
If you decide the course is not for you, now is your opportunity to consider a different option and apply for an alternative subject.
Step 5. Have a chat with the lecturer
The final stage of the day will be to have a 1:1 chat with the lecturer. This will be your opportunity to ask any burning questions you may have, and discuss the course and your suitability with the lecturer.
They will look at your predicted grades and consider your participation during the interactive session earlier in the day to decide which level/course they would like to formally offer you.
If you have any doubts or concerns at this stage, now is the perfect time to discuss these!
Step 6. Receive and accept your formal offer
Once you’ve completed your Applicant Day, you will receive a decision on your application. If you are happy with the offer, you MUST accept it via the KentChoices portal.
Your place on a course will only be guaranteed once you’ve accepted it. If you choose to hold off or forget to complete this step, course spaces may fill up and your place could be offered to another applicant.
We hope this guide has helped to clarify what an Applicant Day involves and has settled any nerves you may have. By the end of the day, you should feel more confident about your choice and clearer about your next steps towards starting College.
If you feel ready to apply, explore our subject areas and submit an application now.
