Students at EKC Dover College have been celebrating today after receiving their Maths and English GCSEs and Level 2 results, marking the culmination of months of hard work and determination.
The atmosphere on campus was full of excitement as learners collected their grades, with many achieving results that will help them progress to the next stage of their education, training or career.
For some, this means progressing to higher-level courses here at EKC Dover College, while others are preparing to begin Apprenticeships, move into employment or continue their studies at university.
We caught up with some of our successful students to hear about their achievements and what they’re off to do next.
Joshua studied Automotive and GCSE Maths at College and achieved a Pass and Grade 4.
Reflecting on his achievement, Joshua said: “Third time’s the charm, isn’t it? I’m happy that I finally got there after doing it again.”
He puts his success down to putting in more preparation this year, adding: “I revised a lot more this year. I think that definitely helped me compared to the previous times I’d done it.”
Joshua is now planning to continue his studies on the Level 3 in Automotive course.
Meanwhile, Shazia has completed her Access to University: Healthcare Professions course, achieving a Distinction alongside a Grade 5 in GCSE Maths. Now that she has secured her Maths qualification, she is preparing to study Adult Nursing at Kingston University London.
Speaking about what achieving her Maths qualification means for her next steps, Shazia said: “It means that I meet the requirement for my Adult Nursing course. To meet the requirement, you have to have GCSE Maths or Functional Skills, so I did GCSE Maths. Now I can go to university and pursue my favourite career.”
She also praised the support she received from staff during her time at the College, particularly her lecturers.
“I didn’t feel any hesitation talking to them or asking them any questions. They were more eager to tell us the answers than we were to ask them questions! That’s why I really love my teachers. They were so kind.”
Also celebrating was Gabriella, who achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE Maths alongside her Education and Early Years course. She is now hoping to begin working in a primary school, having submitted a job application to Elms School.
Gabriella said the support she received from her Maths lecturer, Ryan, played an important role in helping her achieve her result.
“For the longest time, I’ve not been able to understand ratios, but the way Ryan taught it, I was able to understand enough to be able to pass. That really helped me.”
When asked what she has enjoyed most about College, Gabriella said: “Probably the different dynamic compared to school. It’s a lot calmer and I feel like you’re treated more like an adult.
“Everybody in my class was really welcoming. I started the course late and everyone was more than willing to help me catch up, which was nice. If I’d been in the same situation at school, I feel like I’d have just been left on my own to figure things out.”
Liam also successfully completed his Maths GCSE and had some simple advice for students preparing to start their own college journey.
“Don’t stress about it. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t pass first time. There’s always time to redo it if you need to. I had to resit, and now I’m really happy I won’t have to worry about it again.”
Eleanor Sherratt, Principal of EKC Dover College, said: “Results Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the hard work and determination of our students.
“We know that reaching this point takes perseverance and the support of those around them, and with that in mind I am delighted to see so many of our students taking their next steps with confidence.
“We wish all of our students every success for the future and look forward to seeing where their achievements take them next.”
We would like to congratulate all our students on their achievements and wish them every success for their future endeavours.
