Hi I’m Summer, your Student Experience Officer here at EKC Dover College.
Alongside SU President, Sam, I’m here to make your College experience full of fun events, trips and enrichment opportunities so that you make great memories while you study!
Today, I’m sharing ten ways in which you can make the most of your time at College and being a student.
Sign up to the Students’ Union
By signing up, you’ll help get students’ voices heard and help plan the student experience calendar. Students’ Union Officers meet once a term to discuss the upcoming events and trips, whilst discussing any changes that need to be made. The Students’ Union is an incredible thing to be a part of whilst at College.
Volunteer to be your class rep
Becoming a class rep means that you’ll represent the students in your class in termly meetings. This is a great chance to get your voice heard and to help make so many positive changes at College.
Make use of the Student Centre
Go to the Student Centre (Floor 4 of the Vision Building) at break times and lunch times, to eat, drink, play pool and video games and more. The Student Centre is the perfect space to go to when you want to relax between lessons and the student area and gaming room is open to everyone.
Take part in College Events
Why not join in on all of the events over the academic year? Posters are displayed across campus with upcoming events meaning you won’t miss out on a unique opportunity. From Freshers’ Fayres, to end of term parties there’s always something happening.
Future plans include the Students’ Union Halloween event, in which we’re encouraging students to go all out with their spooky costumes. Prizes will be given out to the best on the day.
Attend Talks
Join talks with our guest speakers for a learning experience like never before. Your lecturers will book your groups into guest speaker sessions, with lots available on a wide range of topics from healthy eating to course-related information.
Go on Trips
Sign up to trips when they become available. Grab a trip consent form, get it signed, hand it in and go on unique adventures. Consent forms will be handed out when trips are posted, so keep an eye out around campus.
Play sports
Take part in sports across the College grounds and challenge your friends. Our new basketball hoop is located just outside of reception and will be available to use on your breaks and lunch.
Challenge the Principal
Yes that’s right! You can come and challenge our Principal, Eleanor, to a game of your choice. We are hoping for a student win this year, with exciting games and activities planned.
Join a competition
If you fancy an extra challenge, you can take part in competitions at College during your studies, from those based on your subject knowledge, to fun art and design contests in the town.
Try something new!
Whatever your course, there’s always a chance to try something new. We have skills taster days where you can explore other subject areas and see what you can learn. Local groups also come in and run workshops from art to music and much more.
Remember, no matter how you enjoy your time at College, make the most of it! There is so much to do, so much to get involved in and so many opportunities to make memories.
