T Level Engineering student, Marcus, has won the The South Willesborough and Newtown Community Council Young Persons Award for ‘Contribution to the Environment’ for his commitment to volunteering with Swan Community Allotment.
Marcus completed 22 hours of volunteering for the allotment by contributing to workshops, open days and community events.
This included volunteering his leadership skills to support the running of a harvest workshop and pollinator workshop, guiding young people in education and making a themed, sustainable craft.
Marcus played an important role in promoting sustainable living, healthy eating, biodiversity, and community wellbeing through local food growing, composting, recycling, and water conservation.
Engineering Lecturer, Keely Timms, said: “He is a very hard-working student who puts a huge amount of effort into everything he does. This is well-deserved recognition of his efforts.”
Students at EKC Dover College participate in social action projects throughout the year and during Community Weeks. This emphasis on initiating positive change in the local area has a lasting impact on a students’ growth and the local communities.
