Halloween Arrives Early on Campus: Here's What We’ve Been Up To!

28 October 2024
Here’s a rundown of all the exciting Halloween things that have been happening around campus

Halloween came to campus early this year, and it has been a week filled with spooky fun, creative activities, and festive spirit. It’s always great to see how many students and staff embrace the Halloween season and get stuck in.

Here’s a rundown of all the exciting Halloween things that have been happening around campus.

Beetlejuice 2 Cinema Trip

The Students’ Union took students to the cinema to see the newly released film. Students had a great time – the perfect way to begin the spooky season.

Trick or Treat

Throughout the day, each curriculum area was provided with lots of sweet treats so that students could explore the campus and ‘Trick or Treat’ in each department.

Department Decoration Competition

Each curriculum area was challenged to create their own spooky decorations, with departments being transformed in many different ways. Computing students adorned the T-Lab with Scooby Doo characters and theming, and ESOL hung hand-made decorations from the ceiling in the hallway, whilst the Wellbeing Centre utilised everyday items such as ironing boards to create Halloween centrepieces.

Hair and Beauty when above and beyond combining the subject area with topical ‘Beetlejuice’ theming. Sally-head dolls were made into decapitated heads whilst product boxes were utilised to create a giant figure of the title character.

It was Travel and Tourism however, who took home the prize for ‘Best Department’, with their interactive horror experience. Participants were transported into a dystopian reality with a simulated plane crash which saw students become zombies.

Spooky Films

If students didn’t fancy pumpkin carving, they had the option to sit and watch Hocus Pocus with popcorn and sweets in Your Hub. It was great to see so many students from different departments coming together to watch this all-time favourite.

Fancy Dress Competition

This year we also saw the return of the popular fancy-dress competition. With categories for staff and students, it was nice to see so many taking part. From black angels, devils and an appearance from Cruella DeVille, the effort some went to was highly commendable.

Congratulations to Emma who won the staff prize for her ‘Tiefling Paladin’ creation from Dungeons & Dragons, and Jay, our student winner, for bringing Chucky to life.

Pumpkin Carving

Students got stuck in with pumpkin carving, letting their creative flare lose as they created their own designs. Amongst the usual skeleton faces was Spongebob SquarePants and even a puking pumpkin. Unsurprisingly, some Hairdressing students even utilised the pulp to create fancy hairstyles for their pumpkin

All pumpkins were kindly donated by Dover Morrisons.

Halloween Badges

Multiple departments have been busy creating Halloween themed badges that were available for students to take at Reception.
