Meet Your Students' Union President

2 October 2023
Harley is your Students' Union President and is here to enrich your Student Experience.

We spoke to Harley about his role as Students’ Union President and to see what life is like as an EKC Dover College student.

What are you hoping to achieve as Students’ Union President?

I’m hoping to set up more trips as these help improve the student experience for all as well as more College events. Trips and events we’ve had so far include Freshers Fayre, careers events and lots of activity days with inflatable games.

I’m also hoping to get the College involved in even more charity events this year. We have two community weeks at College where students pick projects that mean a lot to them and I would like to carry on this impact all year round.

Why did you run for Students’ Union President?

I wanted to go for the role as I’ve been in the College for three years and this is now my fourth year. I always have wanted to get the most out of College so this was the next step for me.

I study Motor Vehicle and am looking forward to continue to grow my people skills alongside my practical skills.

What are the benefits of the Students’ Union?

One of the biggest benefits is that by joining it’s a great way to get your voice across and feed into the student experience here at College. You also get to be involved in making decisions that affect you such as feedback with recent events and deciding what we as a Students’ Union do next.

What advice would you give a future student?

I think the best advice is to attend one of the open days and you can select from a large variety of the courses that we provide.

What do current students have to look forward to at EKC Dover College?

The College has invested in new areas for students including a new student centre. This room is where you will most likely find me, located up on the 4th floor. It is an open environment and a very positive space where you can come to if you want to talk, have a break between lessons or just relax by playing pool on the pool table.

We are also going to be running more events. Just one example of this is we are continuing ‘Challenge the Principal’ sessions where you can play against our Principal at various games including Pool, Air Hockey, Mortal Kombat and games on the PS4 and Xbox.
