We caught up with your Student Experience Officer, Summer, to find out what’s being happening at College, and what you have to look forward to this term.

What’s happened so far this term at EKC Dover College?
Earth Day
During the first week of term, we celebrated Earth Day. Held annually on 22 April, Earth Day is a global event which aims to highlight the importance of protecting the environment.

To celebrate Earth Day, Summer planned a week of sustainability-related activities. From welcoming guest speakers to remind us about the important of recycling, to students making smoothies with pedal power, it was a fantastic opportunity to remind us of the importance of looking after the planet.

Pure Gym challenges
Committed to helping our students take care of their health, Summer worked in collaboration with PureGym Dover to bring fitness challenges to the College.

On 29 April, instructors from PureGym led a range of challenges in the Student Hub, with our students competing for a free week’s membership at the gym!

Wellbeing Café

The Student Hub was recently transformed into a wellbeing café. The event created a welcoming space for students to connect with their progression mentors and talk through any questions, concerns, or exam-related stress. With three mentors on hand, along with our counsellor, Anna, and representatives from NHS Talking Therapies, there was plenty of support available for those who needed it.
The relaxed atmosphere was made even better with free pizza, sweets, and drinks, giving students a chance to take a break, recharge, and focus on their wellbeing while preparing for the exam season.
Dover Castle trip
This term, our students had the exciting opportunity to explore Dover Castle, a remarkable English Heritage site just a short distance from the College.

The visit offered not only fascinating insights into the Castle’s roles through time, from Roman lighthouse to wartime fortress, but also breathtaking hilltop views. From this vantage point, students could admire the town of Dover, the English Channel, and even spot the College campus!

Dover Leisure Centre trip
On 7 May, learners had the opportunity to visit a local leisure centre, where they explored a range of health and fitness facilities. The visit encouraged physical activity and wellbeing.
With access to the sport hall students had to opportunity to play football, badminton and tennis, the trip helped students better understand the importance of staying active and the resources available to them locally.
